THE PEEN SCENE

YOUR CITY'S A SUCKER. MY CITY'S A CREEP.

things to do SATURDAY 7/3/2010

Once again Beauty Bar is the place to be tonight. Also, if you hurry up you might still be able to RSVP for $5 entry instead of paying $8 at the door. You don't want to miss world renown Brooklyn, NY DJ Tommie Sunshine! In fact, you don't want to miss a second of this show. Openers include DJ Mel, Fresh Millions, and Austin's resident LCD Soundsystem tribute band All My Friends.

Get up and get out early for this free festival today. Make Austin Weirder Fest 11 at Lovejoy's is opening up at 4pm. Headlining the long list of performers are HUG, Christeene, and Cry Blood Apache.

Scorpion Child have also enlisted a long list of bands to perform at their 3rd of July Picnic. Obv Scorpion Child is playing, but the lineup also features Smoke & Feathers, Formations, Tow the Line, Bridge Farmers, Vitamins, Bloody Work, Spellcaster, and Light Me Up. Per usual for shows at The Mohawk, I have no idea how much this is going to cost.

First Saturday of every month means the reggae, soca, dancehall, and hip hop party known as Ring The Alarm is going down at The ND. You won't find anything else like it in the city. $7 if you arrive before 11pm, $10 after.

Flamingo Cantina is hosting a 4th of July bash...on the 3rd of July. The ambient and jazzy Dimitri's Ascent are set to perform as are Psymbionic.

A CD Benefit show...whatever that means. Austin's Thieves are headlining a show at Red 7 to benefit their CD. For Hours and Ours, The Stampede, and Diamonds are pitching in sets to help too. $8 at the door, por favor.

Republic Live and their DJ Micro show are free tonight if you're 21 or over. How nice.

Last week Prepmode had Barcelona fuckin' bumpin'! Srsly. You've got another chance to witness some dance party magic tonight and every Saturday night down in Barcelona.

If you want to know what New Noise Saturdays at Barbarella are all about, hit up their website. They've posted last Saturday's playlist. Def some good danceable shit goin' on.

After-party! Sorry We Party. Apology NOT accepted. At 2am Hoodie Allen gets on the decks and you get on some free drinks. Its like this every night at End Bar//Biker Gallery.

things to do FRIDAY 7/2/2010

If you hurry you still might be able to RSVP for $7 entry! If not, you'll be paying $10 at Beauty Bar for the PureGrease.com launch party featuring ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Girl In A Coma, Eagle Claw, White Rhino, Prince Klassen, and a lot more! Phew!

Just next door to Beauty Bar, Red 7 has some radness of their own. Texas Jawbreaker tribute band, Whatabreaker and Manzig (take a guess at who they tribute) are playing a free show! Free fake Jawbreaker and Danzig!?

Elysium has German goth industrial giants Project Pitchfork, Ayria, and Lust Murder Box. However, this show is far from free. $18 at the door.

Pong, Woodgrain, Bodytronix, and VidKids are taking over The ND at 501 Studios tonight. I'm not sure how much this show costs.

The Mohawk has got a nice local rock show linedup for you tonight. Whitman, Built By Snow, Guns of Navrone, and On After Dark will perform for an undisclosed cover price (a.k.a. I have no fucking idea how much it will cost to get in to this show).

Honestly, I have no idea who Marshall Rellin is, apparently neither does the interwebz. However, If I had to guess, I'd say he loved him some country rock/punk style music. Honky, The Von Ehrics, Lone Star Demons, The Death Kings, and Jesus vs Godzilla will pay tribute to Marshall Rellin tonight at Emo's. $5 for over 21, $8 for under.

Dance party greatness with DJ Orion at Creekside ever Friday night. This week gets a lil extra boost of party from special guest DJ Richard Henry.

Dubstep, you either love it or you hate it. If you love it, you love Plush on Friday nights. Nuff.

Every First Friday, DJ Digg takes over Barcelona party rockin' duties for fellow Table Manners Crew member DJ Crown. The friendly neighborhood bartenders (unless you're a Jager-Bomb D-Bag) and super strong drinks remain the same.

Everybody get Footloose at Barbarella's super popular 80's night! The set-list never varies too much, but how can you go wrong with The Cure and The Smiths?

Movin' on up! The Get Right Kids, also known as Kid Slyce and DJ QD, are now the proud party DJ owners of Red Fez's coveted Friday night! Fuck Wednesdays!

Oh shit! Everclear in Austin!....NO.

Raunchy 2am dance party madness, the kind you'll only find at End Bar//Biker Gallery. $5, free drinks, bring your own drugs, and dancing.

things to do THURSDAY 7/1/2010

Yes! It's finally here! Tonight at Beauty Bar, Knuckle Rumbler and The Peen Scene present Fool's Gold recording artist CONGOROCK, Orion, and uLOVEi! Daily Peen readers are well aware of my excitement for this show, as I've been posting vids and giving away mp3s all week. Yes, I'm excited about the amazing music that awaits us, but you may have guessed I'm also just a lil excited for the free Sailor Jerry Rum starting at 11:30pm. Just $5 all night long. COME OUT!

Happy fucking birthday to our friend DJ Exceed of Irresponsible Voltron, Area 512 Entertainment, and lot's of other shit. He'll be down in the BASSment a.k.a. Barcelona with his I.V. buddies for this huge 18 and up dance party. Wish him a happy b-day, better yet buy him a shot!

So much win about this show. First of all its free. Second and third, I love Cheer Up Charlie's and Missions is my favorite band in Austin's over-saturated music scene! Like I said, win! Also, How I Quit Crack and Lean Hounds are two opening sets you don't want to miss.

The crisis in the gulf is completely out of hand, on so many levels. Red 7 has decided to put together a benefit show for the problem. Houston's MUHAMMADALi will headline, while Magic Jewels, Naw Dude, and Air Traffic Controllers open the benefit concert. I'm not sure how much it costs, but who cares!

The highly underrated Austin band Death Is Not A Joyride is playing tonight at The Mohawk with Honey and Salt as well as The Non. Cover price isn't listed on The Mohawk's website, but it'll be rather cheap, I'm sure.

Also at The Mohawk will be Dubbel Dutch and possibly Orion (if he sneaks out of the CONGOROCK show). By now you should know that Dubbel Dutch is without a doubt one of the best DJ/producers our city has to offer, so don't sleep. DANCE!

Gun Outfit are on a record label that has also seen releases by No Age, Best Coast, Abe Vigoda, and more. That alone should be enough for you to check out their show tonight at Beerland. Denton's Fergus and Geronimo and Literature from Austin will open the show. I believe cover is $5.

Distance Runner are celebrating their brand new EP release with a show at Scoot Inn featuring themselves, The Great Nostalgic, Model UN, and Team Fabrication. We love us some Team Fab!

Since you'll never get a chance to see Led Zeppelin live (R.I.P., John Bonham), you might just want to settle for the next best thing. Sadly the next best thing is a tribute band and I hate tribute bands, but hey, that's me. $17 at La Zona Rosa gets you Led Zeppelin 2 and the awesomely named all girl GnR tribute band Paradise Titty.

Now that all of the Michael Jackson birth-death-day exploitations are out of the way, Barbarella's Thursday night Grits & Gravy is back to normal. Dig in!

The official after-party of everything! At 2am, End Bar//Biker Gallery will be poppin' off tonight as it does just about every night of the week. $5 at the door, all you can drink alcoholz, dancing, and whatever else you want to do. WHATEVER ELSE.
